Sustainability Educators

“By hosting educational events and reaching out to student groups, our Sustainability Educators share their extensive knowledge in all aspects of communal regenerative living. We teach integrated sustainability, selecting only the most experienced and dedicated individuals to become Educators for NextGEN. We are a team of youth working for youth, igniting the power of the next generation, and inspiring the emergence of a new world.”
Our Sustainability Educators Program is at the heart of NextGEN’s mission. We believe that peer-to-peer education in what we like to call “integrated sustainability” is crucially important for engaging young people in the topics that matter most to this generation.

Our Educators are young people, under 30, and ideally no more than 5 to 10 years older than the age group he or she is educating.
The idea behind this goal is to preserve the value of peer-to-peer education, the concept that individuals benefit from learning and interacting with youth in a similar age group. Because the social, economic, and environmental problems of today will largely effect the coming generations, we wish to use this model to empower and create a sense of solidarity with the young of today. Instead of an elder talking at students, we want to be engaging, realistic role models of what they can aspire to. You don’t have to wait until you are older to begin speaking out about the issues that matter to you, nor do you need to be a super hero to change the world. We are a team of youth working for youth, igniting the power of the next generation, and inspiring the emergence of a new world.

The selection process for our Sustainability Educators is highly competitive, in order to preserve the quality of education and ensure we have the most experiences and capable young people on our team. All applicants must have participated in a month-long Ecovillage Design Education Course through Gaia Education and/or taken a similar course or lived on an ecovillage for an extended period of time. All educators must be able to demonstrate complete competency in the four dimensions of sustainability, the idea of integrated sustainability.
